International Dankookians (Students of Dankook University) often seek information about campus services through the Dankook University (DKU) website or the International Office. However, the website is not updated frequently, and even when changes are made, sometimes the information is inaccurate. As a result, it is challenging for international Dankookians to access correct information. Therefore, the Dankook Herald (DKH) sought out answers to the most frequently asked questions, and in this edition of “Your Guide to DKU,” we cover public transportation and cafeterias at DKU.

Q1. How do I get around using buses at DKU?

On campus, you will often see bus 24 circulating, but did you know if you wait near the dental hospital bus stop, you can catch both bus 24 and 720-3 for free straight to the Bear statue? Also, do not forget about our very own "Zero Tour" bus line – it is complimentary and takes you directly to and from Jukjeon station. Unlike the Jukjeon campus which has numerous buses, the Cheonan campus mainly operates bus 11 and shuttle buses. Most Dankookians board bus 11 at Cheonan station, Cheonan Terminal, or Dujeong station and disembark at the bus stop on campus, located in front of the playground. Shuttle buses run only at fixed times to Dujeong station and Cheonan Terminal. You can check the shuttle bus schedule on the DKU website or by using the DKU application. Since shuttle buses operate irregularly, so it is often more practical to take bus 11 to get to and from the Cheonan Campus.

Q2. Can I catch a bus to Seoul or elsewhere from campus?

Absolutely! Keep an eye out for the bright red buses stopping right by the main gate of DKU’s Jukjeon Campus. Planning a trip to Myeongdong? Hop on the 8100 red bus for a comfortable ride with no subway transfers, taking just about an hour straight to Myeongdong. Need to get to Konkuk Street? Grab bus 102. Heading to Yeouido or Gangnam? Buses 7007-1 and 1101-N have got you covered. In the case of Cheonan Campus, to go to Seoul, you have to take bus 11 or the shuttle buses towards Dujeong station and transfer to line 1. If you prefer buses, head to the Cheonan Terminal and transfer to buses to Seoul. To travel to Seoul by train, take a train from Cheonan station to Seoul station. Bus and train tickets can be purchased online or in person.

Q3. Are there any apps to help with navigation?

Certainly! For smooth travel across Korea, it’s essential to download Naver or Kakao Maps on your phone. They provide comprehensive information on routes and fares. Additionally, for bus schedules, make sure to download Kakao Bus which offers real-time updates, greatly assisting you during your travels.

Q4. Where is the cafeteria at DKU?

Dankookians often dine at the student and faculty cafeterias on campus. At the Jukjeon Campus, the student cafeteria is located on the first floor of Hyedang Hall, while the faculty cafeteria is situated on the 7th floor of the Graduate Schools next to Hyedang Hall. The student cafeteria at the Cheonan Campus is on the third floor and the faculty cafeteria is on the fourth floor of the Student Hall. Although the faculty cafeteria has fewer seats, the panoramic view of the entire campus enhances the dining experience for Dankookians.

Q5. What time is the cafeteria open?

At the Jukjeon campus, both cafeterias are open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For breakfast, the student cafeteria serves the first 100 Dankookians at 8:30 a.m., while the faculty cafeteria offers dinner from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. However, it’s worth noting that visiting the cafeterias at certain times of the day, may lead to disappointment, as they might close early due to insufficient supply. They are also really crowded around noon. The student cafeteria on the Cheonan campus operates from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and remains closed during vacations. The faculty cafeteria is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and during vacations. The cafeteria on the Cheonan campus tends to be less crowded, providing a more relaxed dining experience.

Q6. What dishes are available in the cafeteria?

The student cafeterias on both campuses offer a variety of dishes. Over four different types of meals are prepared in the student cafeteria, so there are enough options to choose from. However, the faculty cafeteria typically offers only one dish for breakfast and dinner. The cafeteria menu changes daily, so guests can look forward to a good variety of dishes served every day. You can find menu information in the ‘Community’ section of the DKU website and on the DKU application.

Throughout your school life, various questions may arise. Rather than tackling them alone, we can solve them together. The DKH hopes that international Dankookians find assistance from this section helpful in providing the answers to their most popular questions.
